Emily State of Reverie

I'm Emily, the founder of State Of Reverie. I'm a tertiary qualified Graphic Designer and formerly a Marketing Manager in the food and liquor industries, but my big love has always been design and creating beautiful things, especially with paper and print. I'm meticulous with my work and have always set high standards for myself.

I founded State Of Reverie in 2017, right after my own wedding in Melbourne, Australia. When I was designing my own stationery, I looked around for inspiration but noticed there wasn't much out there that was contemporary and cool. Everything seemed a bit cookie cutter and daggy.

There was nowhere you could order a full suite of modern event stationery and signage in one place. No matching collections that could be tailored to suit your style.

It was either pay big money for a wedding stylist to commission a custom suite for you, or cobble together different pieces from a few suppliers and hope it all looks OK on the day.

Along came State of Reverie.

I thought, there must be couples out there who want a really polished and beautiful wedding, with stationery and signage that is cohesive right from the invitations to the table numbers. Hiring a wedding planner or stylist is an option only available to very few, so there needed to be something more accessible - cue the launch of State Of Reverie!

Since then my team and I work with hundreds of couples every year - delivering premium, made to order invitations and stationery for the main event.

Every gorgeous piece can be purchased online from one destination, making for a consistently beautiful wedding that's dead easy to organise. We don't do traditional, fussy and daggy - our modernist designs are clean and refined, yet unexpected. Designed and printed in Melbourne, we ship all over the world with carbon offset delivery.

We are meticulous about our craft, so at the end of the day you receive flawless, premium stationery that truly brings joy to your guests.

Our collections are tailored to suit your style with our many colour, design and print options. We go the extra mile to provide exceptional service, because I know first hand how important that is for a couple who's up to their eyeballs in wedding planning tasks.

But we found a problem.

Having been in the events industry for 5+ years now, I've found that plastic waste is a big problem. Sadly most weddings feature acrylic or PVC (foam) stationery and signage which is used for just a few short hours then goes into landfill (it can’t be recycled in your local council recycling bin).

Did you know Australia generates over 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste each year, and only 9% is sent for recycling.*

What makes us different?

In 2020 I made the decision to eliminate all plastic from my business, both in the products we sell and also our packaging. We strive to be as eco-conscious as possible.
Our stationery and signage is completely paper or cotton based, 100% recyclable through local council recycling. Our papers are all FSC certified or recycled.
For example, our cotton card stock (used for letterpress and foil invitations) is made with cotton waste from the textile industry. We also offer eInvitations and wedding websites if you prefer to go paper free. Read more about our Eco Policy here.

I've had to push hard with our suppliers to insist on plastic free materials, but in the end we're proud to stand firm and happy to pay that bit extra for the right materials that fit with our values.

Beautiful events shouldn't cost us the earth

It's so achievable to have a stunning wedding that delights your guests and brings all your Pinterest dreams to life, whilst not adding to our giant landfill problem. Our mission is to make it easy for our couples to choose sustainable products for their wedding, so they aren't tempted to choose single use plastics. We also hope to inspire other event suppliers to follow a similar approach, such as florists, caterers and stylists.

If you’d like to chat with us about how we can help you create a stunning wedding that is environmentally conscious then please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.

With love,

Emily x
